Depending on the clinical indication either both hips are done simultaneously (e.g. exclude or stage avascular necrosis, bilateral symptoms of synovitis or erosions) in the coronal and axial planes with high-resolution sagittal images of each hip joint to asses the articular surfaces. For most other indications a small FOV high-resolution examination of a single hip is performed.
